Getting (Tea)cosy with Katie & Lachlan

“It was one of the most romantic and memorable intimate ceremonies I had the pleasure of capturing…It was definitely a different kind of wedding, one that will go down as one of my personal faves.” Alex, Olguin Photography

The Brief

  • Think…”Lover”, Taylor Swift. We want:

    • A first look

    • A private ceremony at III Rooms Sydney

    • A shared ceremony at the Tea Cosy

    • A high tea party (and no reception, thanks)

The MeetCute

When I think of Katie and Lachlan my mind goes straight to John Cusak holding a boombox outside his lover's window in the Say Anything movie. I think of Patrick Dempsey sitting on a ride on a lawn mower with the love of his life in Can’t buy me Love. These two are the best goddamn romcom mixed with the elegance of a great classic. So, today - my friends. Let me tell you the movie, or story - of Katie and Lachlan.

It was a fateful day in 2017 when Katie first walked into Lachlans workplace, 2773 Cafe. All was business as usual as Katie went to order her regular order, a chai latte - when time stood still as she saw Lachlan for the very first time. Katie tells me the moment she saw Lachlan’s gorgeous brown eyes, dreamy dimples and cheeky smile, goosebumps on her arms were standing to attention. ‘The Cute Coffee Guy’ was born, and the invisible string was drawn.

However it wasn’t until 2 years later in 2019, when Katie was loaded with some serious ammunition, her puppy and wingwoman Buster Belle. It was on a lap of the local block when Katie and Buster would run into Lachlan and his own four legged friend, Gizmo. A friendly “Do I know you?” led to Katie and Buster asking the ultimate question “Wanna go walkies?”. Lachlan and Gizmo replied with a firm yes.

It was a stroll around Glenbrook with Lachlan, Gizmo, Katie and Buster traversed from day to night. The local oval’s sport lights light up the field allowing the perfect opportunity to stall going home, and count some extra steps. However Gizmo had another idea in mind, plopping himself down on the grass for a rest. So, these two followed suit. They sprawled across the grass, chatted movie reviews and film scores, watched the stars above, held hands for the first time and eventually, when the words ran dry...they had their first kiss. 8pm turned into 2am, the groundsman turning the lights off, and Buster Belle chewing through her lead three times over. With only 4 hours to get back to work the next day, Katie recalls this as the best night of her life. The invisible string had done its job, finally tying Katie and Lachlan in a bow - now with a doubt knot.

What we did

I met Katie, Lachlan and their parents at III Rooms Sydney for a first look and private elopement focussing on legal and private vows, and our marriage paperwork. We then gathered their A list at The Tea Cosy, The Rocks for a commemorative 20 minute ceremony. The confetti canyons that we’d planned to spray at the end of our ceremony skipped the packing list, but we weren’t worried - nothing like an impromtu DIY toss from your Katie’s sister to get the ultimate shot.

We can’t thank you enough Maddy! You made our day absolutely incredible and we couldn’t have done it without you. You are the best Celebrant and chick ever. Truly a day come true for us.
